Valparaíso. City of Contrasts


Valparaiso... a South American city with a special character,
Valparaíso is located on the central Chilean coast, at 33.5° latitude south, 120 km to the northwest of Santiago. This port, with 300.000 inhabitants, enjoys a Mediterranean climate. Its location by the pacific gives it a fresh breeze on hot summer days and also a wealth of fish and seafood. Colourful houses are distributed over numerous hills connected by winding streets and long stairways. This unique architectural inheritance was recently declared by UNESCO World heritage status.

The spanish classes are at Interactive Spanish School which is constituted by a hghily qualified team of teachers and professors in Education, Literature, Grammar and Pedagogy in Spanish Language. The schools main goal is to help the students to learn the spanish language as a communication tool and work together to improve their spanish language skills.

Sunday Day 1: Arrivals all day. Arrival into Santiago airport. Transfer to Valparaiso, Hostel Casa Aventura, check in
• Participant introductions, presentations by trip leaders, and review of the code of conduct of the hostel and use of the common spaces.
• Short introduction of the tour and expectations • Dinner at a near by hostel.


Monday Day 2: Spanish class in the morning, free the rest of the day


Tuesday Day 3: Spanish class in the morning, afternoon walking tour:
Valparaiso City of Inspiration. Duration: 4 hours
• We will walk through different points of contrast of the city between the hills and the plane flat area. We will encounter Pablo Neruda's way of life in the Sebastiana and the daily life of the common people of Valparaiso

Wednesday Day4: Spanish class in the morning, free the rest of the day


Thursday Day 5: Spanish class in the morning, afternoon excursion to the Market Place:
Valparaiso City of Commerce. Duration: 4 hours
• This afternoon we wil discover the contrast of the formal and informal Trade. Experience how local merchants articulate in their business dealings. Finishing our trip in the Market Place "El Mercado Cardonal" and meet with one of the most famous charecters of the market "El Motemaei" - a street vendor of Mote con Huesillos.



Friday Day 6: Spanish class in the morning, free the rest of the day
• In the evening outing to the Bohemian Night at the local bar "Cinzano" Tango night


Saturday Day 7: Excursion all day.
Visit Olmué:
• Inland excursion with a local guide we will get to know the campesinos and their way of living,their dependence to the city, their language, and customs. Then a visit to the national park "La Campana" preservation and inhabitant
• Guide: Jose Ramon Fernandez
• Return to Hostel


Sunday Day 8: Excursion all day
Visit to the Coast:
• Meet the local fishermen of Concon. Talk with the people of the coastal region that earn their living due to the generosity of the Pacifec Ocean. Finish the afternoon with a trip on horse back viewing the baylands of the coastal region of Ritoque
• Guide: Maria Elena Rodriguez • Return to hostel


Monday Day 9: Spanish class in the morning, free the rest of the day.



Tuesday Day 10: Spanish class in the morning, afternoon Lecture and Tour Valparaiso City of University Life. Duration: 4 hours
• Talk with a University Teacher on the history of the university education of Chile. Then we will visit a university department that interest the most participants and meet a university students and get to know their stragle on paying for an education. Ending with an analysis on the future of Education.

• Speaker: Alda Bertoni, Faculty member of the Catholic University of Valparaiso " Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso".


Wednesday Day 11: Spanish class in the morning, free the rest of the day


Thursday Day 12: Spanish class in the morning, afternoon excursion to the Harbour Valparaiso Port City. Duration:4 hours
• Visit to the Port of Valparaiso get to know its future, vision and mission. Meet with a worker and get to know his version of the future and vision of the port of Valparaiso.

Friday Day 13: Spanish class in the morning, free the rest of the day. Evening Farewell Dinner at a local restuarant


Saturday Day 14: Check out departure to Santiago airport.
